Taking it easy

One of the many things I love about this time of year, are the opportunities it presents for catch-ups. Friends and family from near and far, coming together, enjoying and relaxing, reminiscing and memory making. This almost dreamlike period between Christmas and New Year has the same constant feel year after year and it's comforting how everyone seems to surrender to it. While the pace is slower and the schedule somewhat more relaxed... for the littlies, it is still very much action stations. So day on, day off, seems to work the best for us.

Yesterday, was day on. Visiting Nana and Pop, exploring and frolicking and running amok in their huge backyard. Spending a few fun-filled hours in the afternoon, with our wonderful friends. We don't get to see them near as often as we'd like, due to our geographical distance. Yet much like this time of year, catching up with this family has that same constant, satisfying feel. Just. like. home. It fills my heart and soul with a rich sense of contentment, watching our children play. I would love nothing more than to see their bonds grow and carry them into adulthood. Like their Mama and I have been lucky enough to do, since kindergarten. Tomorrow will be day on again, but after taking it nice and easy today, hopefully we'll be ready for it

  1. This is just a magic time of year, isn't it?
    Those all-in cuddles are adorable.

Even with a sick Magoo, I'm soaking it up.
We're day off, day off at the moment - but look forward to adventures next week.

  2. We used to do 'day on, day off' too... when my now adult boys were small. Avoiding overtiredness was the only way we could cope.

Gorgeous photos! The kids look like they are having a wonderful time. :-)

  7. what happy little kiddies!!! I love this time of year (despite the inevitable pre-xmas hectic chaos and stress!) and this year am appreciating even more having a few days 'off' -- I have almost sent myself to an early grave this last couple of months and had to force myself to lock the studio door this week! Hope you had a lovely xmas with your family and look forward to sharing your adventures in 2012 xx Nicole - Bubby Makes Three

  9. Oh Julie, just catching up. My, that must be the first roundabout I've seen in 20 years! Fantastic - just like we had as children. So many 1000s have been ripped out all over the country due to public liability cases that's it just fabulous to see one again. No wonder you had so many happy little faces there! J x
