The next big step

It has been one huge, surreal week around these parts. The emotion hit me as soon as I woke on Monday. And I cried like a big baby. Deep, hearty tears. Just as I expected. But when the time came to take our first stroll to school, I embraced the moment and stood in awe of my boy's enthusiasm and confidence. He literally bounded his way to the classroom and settled himself on the floor with a construction type activity he had eyed off at orientation. The whole business is rather overwhelming. Five days in a row, away from each other, is by far the most we have ever experienced. And by Friday, we were ready for the break. Though the excitable little stories on the way home and those afternoon greeting cuddles are really something else.

It has certainly been a huge week.
(The return of the 'Magoo Meltdown' can attest to that!)
Your gorgeous pics are giving me tears, Julie.

  5. Oh well done you. I cried with my first too. Next year I will cry with my last! (The middle one was way lucky that there were no mummy tears.) BTW your new header photo is divine!!!! I love it.

  7. I feel like all of of us Mums need a big group hug after this past week - so many of us sending little ones off to their first year of school. Really beautiful photos of the big first day and seeing Angus in his uniform he really looks ready for School. Such mixed feelings though isn't it but how nice you get to spend more one on one time with Felix now - he will love that! Hope it continues to go well next week.

I was going to edit my Post to say that although my boys started what is called Kindergarten here in Tassie, it is actually the equivalent of preschool in NSW but here they tack it onto Big School as an extra year before full-time school but it's FREE and they have uniforms etc and everyone refers to this as the first year of Big School. Next year they will be in Prep which is the same as your Kindergarten - see, confusing!

  9. Oh what a big week you've had! So glad Angus took to it well :) And it's good to get those tears out. I was fine on Jasper's first day but found myself emotional on the 2nd and 3rd day. I think it hit me that it was real! How good are Friday afternoons when you can just come home and be together? xx

  11. Jules, he looks so grown up in his uniform. It looks like Felix misses him a lot whilst he is away from him. No doubt they will have lots of stories to tell each other come the end of each day.
Enjoy every moment, what a very special year for you all xx
